I met Julia Child once years ago and I had her sign a couple of cook books I bought. I gave one to my mom, but I should send it to you since my mom never uses it.

I think you and your nephew have hit on something here. Our library users and, yes, even we librarians tend to discount reading that is not in book format.

I once had a supervisor who was ashamed to admit she didn't read much. Oh yes she did! Wall Street Journal and investment magazines.

In addition to my book reading, I also spend a lot of time reading my newsfeeds each work. They keep me updated about libraryland as well as the mad doings of my blogging friends.

Using Facebook, I also seem to spend an iordinate time reading my wall and those of my friends. It reinforces my feeling of community and friendship - something I sorely need!

Hey it's me your niece Iv'e been deffinately trying out your share the joy for reading tecnique and boy can a say its fun! Even in high school you have all these groups and cliques, so its hard to get to know different people. I've noticed that so many people have to go into the school libary and I knew that everyone is connected through books. That got me started I've met people who have looked at me crazy and people who actually are eager to talk to me about books. In high school people can be forgoten but just with a simple question; "have you read anything cool lately?" Can set people off and before you know it you've made a new friend or your simply making their day by talking to them.

Wow, I know someone who reads the Economist he picks up at the airport too! I think he is mainly interested in its foreign perspective.

I recently read "Happy Hooker" by Xaviera Hollander, a good introduction to human sexual behaviors and psychology as part of my astrology study.

I find this to also be one of the most useful ways to improve reader's advisory skills, too!

Mostly, I've discovered few of my colleagues read (or admit to reading) my favorite genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense.

I also learn that my colleagues surprise me. There are some I'd never have picked for self-help books, or SF readers.

I've also learned that I'm much better at the 3 minute book talk than I realized!

I've been contemplating lately a concept I call "Life on Shuffle." What do the songs shuffling through my mp3 player say about me? What do my titles listed on goodreads say about me? What do they say about my needs in life? What am I affirming?

Yes. For me the reading/viewing/listening may very well be about affirming. Must meditat on this and blog at home tonight
